Give every dollar a job. And every euro, peso and pound.

Bell Budget is a zero-based budgeting app for money that lives in more than one currency. Assign what you actually have, let it roll forward month to month, and always know what’s safe to spend.

Type into Assigned. Math works too: try 120+60.

Four habits,
one number to zero.

  1. Budget the money you have.

Not next month’s paycheck. What’s in your accounts right now becomes Ready to Assign, one balance per currency.

  2. Give every unit a job.

Assign until Ready to Assign reads zero. Dollars stay dollars and euros stay euros. Nothing gets quietly converted to make the totals look tidy.

  3. Bend, don’t break.

Overspent on groceries? Move money over from a category that can spare it. The plan changes when your month does.

  4. Let it roll.

Whatever’s left in a category carries into next month, so savings build up instead of resetting on the 1st.

Small things, done properly.

Multi-currency budgeting, one budget

Hold dollars, euros and pesos side by side. Each currency gets its own Ready to Assign, and transfers between them record the rate you actually got.

Rules that categorize for you

Match on payee or memo. The longest match wins, so “Uber Eats” lands in Dining out even though “Uber” means Transport.

Questions

What is zero-based budgeting?

You budget only the money you already have, and assign all of it to categories until nothing is left unassigned. Every dollar gets a job before you spend it.

Can I budget in more than one currency?

Yes. Each currency has its own Ready to Assign balance, categories can be funded in any currency you hold, and transfers between currencies record the exchange rate you actually got. Currencies used only for investments can be marked off-budget.

Is Bell Budget a YNAB alternative?

Bell Budget uses the same envelope-style, zero-based method that YNAB popularised: assign what you have, move money when plans change, and let leftovers roll into next month. It adds first-class multi-currency budgeting and off-budget investment tracking.

How do transactions get into Bell Budget?

Enter them by hand, with arithmetic allowed in every amount field, import shared expenses from Splitwise, or send them through the API from a script or an automation tool like n8n. Auto-categorization rules apply on the way in.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Bell Budget is built for desktop, tablet and phone, and can be added to your home screen like an app.

Ready to assign?

Add an account, enter its balance, and give the first few dollars a job. It takes about two minutes.
